Custom thermofax screens
If you would like to design your own screens, you can supply original artwork to be turned into custom thermofax screens in three easy steps.
Step 1 – prepare your image(s)
The Thermofax process is particularly suited to finely detailed images such as line drawings, skeleton leaves, feathers and text (individual words or paragraphs). Tonal or textural images such as photographs and rubbings are also excellent. Photographs and objects can be scanned into a computer to produce a digital image or you could use a program such as Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop to create interesting images from scratch. Your images should be positive, and black and white.
Important note on copyright – if you wish to use artwork or photographs that are not your own, please make sure that they are copyright free or that you have permission for their use. It may be a copyright infringement to reproduce someone else's work even if it is in a different medium or has been altered in some way.
Check the dimensions of your image(s) to determine whether you require small, medium or large frame(s). If an image is only slightly too large for a particular frame size you could consider reducing it slightly. This is easily done on all photocopiers and some (multi-function) printers.

Step 2 – order your custom screen(s)
Follow the instructions depending on which payment method your prefer:
Payment by credit card, debit card or Paypal
Click the buttons below according to the screen size(s) you require. Quantities can be edited in the shopping basket and delivery charges will be added automatically.

Important: To complete your order you need to send your image(s) by email or post – see Contact us for details.
- By email – pictures or drawings can be sent as jpeg attachments, ideally at 200dpi or above. Text can be sent as either jpeg or Word (.doc) attachments. Please include the following information in the body of the email:
- your name and address (plus delivery address if different)
- the actual dimensions of the image(s) – images can appear in different sizes on different computers.
- By post – send a photocopy of the image or a printout made using a laser printer (images for Thermofax processing must be made using carbon toner and therefore Inkjet prints are unsuitable).
Payment by cheque
Print a copy of the order form and fill in the details of your order. Post your completed form together with your image(s) and the cheque to the address on the form.
Payment by internet banking
Thermofax Screens' sort code and account number are on the order form. Please include your name as the reference when you make the payment. To complete the order you will still need to send your image(s), as well as the details of the order (screen size, quantity, delivery address, etc), by email or post.
Step 3 – order processing and delivery
Your order will be processed once payment and image(s) have been received, and your screens sent to you by post usually within seven days. Screens are supplied with full instructions for their use and care. For further information see Thermo FAQs.
Remeshing of old screens
If you have old thermofax screens that are worn out or no longer needed, you can order replacement imaged mesh for you to attach to a frame yourself.
Squeegees
Traditional silkscreen squeegees, designed for use with wooden screens, are unsuitable for thermofax screens. We stock lightweight squeegees that are specially designed to use with thermofax screens.
Textile screen inks
Textile screen inks, perfect for use with thermofax screens, are available to buy now. These inks are water-based and easy to use.
